Miami Bass Museum of Art, Gay-Friendly Miami Arts and Entertainment |
Miami Bass Museum of Art Miami Bass Museum of Art started back in 1963 when John and Johanna Bass donated their extensive art collection to the city of Miami Beach. The donation was given under the understanding that the works would stay in the Museum enduringly. Since then, it has continued elevating the city's cultural landscape by acquiring temporarily exhibits from museums from all over the world. This gay-friendly Miami museum is a popular Miami attraction. Miami Bass Museum of Art was placed on the National Register of Historic sites back in 1978. The Museum features formal gardens, outdoor exhibition spaces, photography exhibitions, lectures, films, temporary exhibits, music and dance performances and educational programs. In addition to all, there are tours available upon request; free with museum admission. The original collection donated has now grown to over 3,000 works of art. Miami Bass Museum of Art showcases artwork by Botticelli, Ghirlandaio, Sir Thomas Lawrence, Rembrant, and other artists. The art pieces included a permanent collection ranged in style from Renaissance and Baroque painting, Japanese woodblock prints, Korean objects, and sculptures from Latin America, as well as the Caribbean.
