The U.S. may have an openly gay senator for the first time in history.

Randi Weingarten, president of the New York City teachers union and an openly gay woman, is one of the candidates running to replace Hillary Clinton in the U.S. Senate. Weingarten has said she is “flattered and honored” to be considered by New York Gov.
