2009 Eddy McIntyre Community Service Award Ceremony

On Saturday, October 17th, The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force will present the 2009 Eddy McIntyre Community Service Award to MDGLCC President Steve Adkins. Steve Adkins has been a major supporter and enabler of local LGBT organizations. He has played an important role in promoting LGBT-friendly businesses and educating local leaders about LGBT workplace issues. We invite you to join us as we recognize his contributions to the LGBT community at this 2009 Eddy McIntyre Community Service Award event.

The 2009 Eddy McIntyre Community Service Award event includes a dinner, which is an important fundraiser for the LGBT community. One-third of the proceeds from the Miami events dinner are donated to the Task Force. The LGBT Task Force played a major role in protecting Miami-Dade’s Human Rights Ordinance by contributing more financial and human resources than any other national organization. The remaining two-thirds of the Miami events proceeds will go to the Dade Community Foundation’s GLBT Community Projects Fund. In return, the Foundation presents grants to Miami-Dade LGBT service organizations including Youth Services, Pridelines, Switchboard of Miami and Miami Beach Gay Pride. Over the last four years, about $800,000 has been returned to the local community.

Cocodorm Law Suit

Recently, U.S. District Judge Marcia Cooke ruled that a gay porn website, Cocodorm.com, may continue to film out of its Miami location in Edgewater.

A totally normal looking home from the outside, the inside of this Miami home is a porn set for black and Hispanic men, also known as “dorm dudes,” who cohabitate in a web-cam filmed house. Miami and the city’s Code Enforcement Board tried to shut down the house claiming they were an adult business illegally operating out of residential area. In response, Cocodorm resorted to a filing a lawsuit in federal court.

Judge Cooke sided with Cocodorm with the reasoning that Cocodorm customers were not gathering in this residential neighborhood home. There are several gay-friendly Miami vacation homes and Miami vacation apartments in the area. The dorm dudes will stay put!

Italy vs. Brokeback Mountain

Gay rights groups are angry crying “censorship” after RAI, Italian state television, deleted a gay sex scene in a tent and a gay kissing scene from Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain featuring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Activists argue that RAI TV would have kept the scene had it involved a heterosexual couple.

After politicians met to discuss the incident, RAI claimed the cut was accidental. Gay rights advocate and former lawmaker, Vladimir Luxuria insists it was not just a mere oversight and that it was intentional censorship.

Local Miami Celebrity Show His Twins

People magazine and People en Español introduced Ricky Martin’s twin sons, Matteo and Valentino, to the world last week.

Martin talks about caring for the 4-month olds and the amazing feeling brought by fatherhood.

The local Miami Celebrity used the help of a surrogate mother to make his dream come true and explains that he chose the route because it was “intriguing and faster” than adoption.

The new dad does it all on his own: changes diapers, bathes them, feeds them and puts them to sleep. Congratulations, Ricky!
